What are the priority nursing interventions for Nitroprusside?

Monitor blood pressure continuously, ideally with an arterial line, and titrate carefully to ordered targets. Protect the infusion from light by wrapping the bag in foil or supplied opaque covering. Watch for signs of cyanide and thiocyanate toxicity, especially after 24-48 hours or in renal impairment. Use a dedicated infusion pump and limit duration of high-dose infusions.

What are the warning signs of Nitroprusside a nurse must report?

Report abrupt or severe hypotension, which can cause organ hypoperfusion. Report metabolic acidosis, confusion, dyspnea, or rising lactate suggesting cyanide toxicity, stop the infusion. Never infuse without light protection or beyond recommended duration without reassessment. Discard solution that turns blue, green, or dark red.
